National Basketball Association commissioner Adam Silver had signalled that changes to the All-Star Game were coming after this year's event in New Orleans, which ended in a farcical 192-182 victory for the Western Conference over the Eastern Conference.

The NBA has eliminated the traditional Eastern Conference vs. "We're looking forward to putting on an entertaining show in L.A". Although the captains are divided by conference, they are not forced to pick players from the same conference as themselves.

TNT will reveal the All-Star Game starters and captains on January 18th and the reserves on January 23rd.

The conference does matter when it comes to the team's captain, who will be the highest vote-getter from the East and West. Last year, LeBron James received the most votes in the East and Stephen Curry in the West.

What hasn't changed are the number of players and how the fans, media and players have their votes weighted.

Paul made sure NBPA executive director Michele Roberts got involved, and Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan, the president of the league's labor relations committee, fostered further discussion.

From there, though, the process of selecting who will play on each team will be done by the top vote-getter in each conference, mimicking what the National Hockey League instituted from 2011-2015 and changing up a format that had grown stale.

NBA President of League Operations Byron Spruell welcomed the input of players keen to "try something new".

The voting process will stay the same, with 12 players from each conference earning a chance to play in the game. The NBA's head coaches will still pick the 14 reserves.

That is just one of the many changes aimed at improving the 2017-18 season.

The NBA All-Star game will take place on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018 at 8 p.m. EST. Each All-Star Game coach will lead the team that includes the captain from the same conference.
