On the list of shadiest of shady award show moments, Fifth Harmony figuratively kicking Camila Cabello off the stage in front of the entire world the MTV VMAs previous year is definitely right at the top. In her New York Times interview, she stated, "It definitely hurt my feelings" (via Billboard). Besides her debut album dropping on Friday (January 12), Camila also received a massive shout-out from Elton John on the latest Beats 1 broadcast with Matt Wilkinson.

She told The NYT that she ultimately chose to go solo because Fifth Harmony wouldn't let her work on solo music while still being part of the group.

She explained: "I think that the good thing about social media and the internet is that I feel like it makes the world smaller and it just kind of breaks down barriers between languages, between people, between cultures, and I think that might have something to do with that. I don't like holding onto the past, especially when it's stuff that, in my opinion, is just petty". I was just like, 'What? "And the 'Rocket Man" star is in luck, as Camila previously admitted that after originally thinking the album would be full of "sad songs", she has now found it to be more upbeat than she expected. She said she wanted to contribute lyrics to group songs, but was rebuffed.

"It became clear that it was not possible to do solo stuff and be in the group at the same time", she says.

On Wednesday night, January 10, the former Fifth Harmony member performed the track for the first time on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon". The Healing. The Loving, but the Times story confirms it was changed so that Cabello could officially wash her hands of 5H drama. It'd be interesting to hear that version of an album that's clearly been through a lot of tinkering and sequencing, especially if some of what got chucked was more autobiographical about her recent career turns.

Fifth Harmony has continued as a quartet and released their self-titled third album previous year.
